Find out what's going on this week!!
Thursday's Social: Cobden View
Thursday 9th February
This week the club finds itself at the Cobden view. This is a great cosy pub located in the heart of Crooks and has plenty of choice for the real drinker, as well as other alcoholic beverages. One added bonus is the possibility of having food provided for us, potentially free (wow I know!). The pub also has a pool table for those of you wanting to beat your fellow club members at a fairly low stakes game. We will be there from 8:30 onwards and as ever the location is on the map below. Also Brewery Tour and ROAR sign up will begin this week so please register your interest :)
Leader and First Aid Training
Thursday 9th February
We will be having a meeting on Thursday (before the social) to give anyone who’s interested in becoming a leader the opportunity to ask questions and find out more about what the training entails (this will be at the Students Union, room to be confirmed). This will only be short however if you can’t make it don’t worry, we can send you more information by email. If you are interested in becoming a leader please email the club www.suwc@sheffield.ac.uk and let us know if you can make it to the meeting on Thursday or if you’d like more information.
Saturday’s Walk: Bamford-Hathersage via Moscar
Saturday 11th February
For this term's first walk we head out to Bamford on the train. Starting in the Derwent Valley we skirt the edge of Ladybower Reservoir, passing through woodland then across open moorland. Enjoy the views from Stanage Edge before descending into Hathersage and heading for the pub. Meet in the entrance to train station at 9.45. Bring plenty of layers (no jeans!), food and water, boots, and money for the train (about £5, less with a railcard) and pub.
Brewery Tour
Thursday 23rd February
Also this semester the much anticipated brewery tour is back on the calendar (get in!) on the 23rd of February. This offers you the chance to see how Kelham Island Brewery makes such stunning ales if you like that sort of thing. The evening costs £7.50 and includes the tour as well as the chance to drink free pints of ale in the visitors centre (and yes this means getting smashed is pretty easy to achieve). Places are limited so come along to the social to sign up or send an email to the club showing your interest.
ROAR Social
Wednesday 29th February
This year’s ROAR is set to be a very special one. The club will be embracing full on fancy dress in the return of the very popular Neon Pirate theme. So if you have a craving for all things Neon or simply like dressing up as a pirate in your spare time then this social will be perfect for you. Starting at the Nottingham house the bar crawl will eventually spit us out at Bar One and then on to ROAR. So if this sort of activity takes your fancy then register your interest with an email to the club or sign up at the Thursday socials, and we will see you on the 29th of February at 8:30 at Nottingham house.
For all walks (unless otherwise stated) remember to bring money for the pub and return bus/train, sturdy shoes/boots, a packed lunch, waterproofs and warm clothes. No jeans please. If not already a member a membership form must be completed and the current membership fee paid at the start of the walk. For more details of what to bring, see the gear advice section.
