Victoria Lund

Down from the wilds of Scotland, our ex-publicity officer, who has reliably bombarded our inboxes every Tuesday for the last year, has leapt straight into the role of President. We will surely be in safe hands with this competent Grade 2 leader in charge, and she has lots of ideas to keep the club as vibrant and successful as it has been up till now. Victoria is an expert on all things outdoors and Scottish, and on walks will be more than willing to tell the unfortunate, less knowledgeable ones amongst us (me) the difference between a mountain and a munro - what was it again? At socials she is keen to return to her roots and has been known to don a tartan Scottish hat with orange pigtails that plays a jig at the press of a button! Victoria is also an enthusiastic cricketer, and although she is embarking on the third year horrors of biochemistry and microbiology, there is no doubt that with Victoria at the front, the club will continue to climb from strength to strength.

Written by Emily

For her third year on the committee, Emily will be stepping into the role of Vice President. With her past experience as publicity and safety officer, sound knowledge of the club and brilliantly organised personality, Emily will no doubt be the perfect person for helping Victoria with the smooth running of SUWC. Emily is passionate about the outdoors and can often be found traversing the peak district map in hand, but she also has a multitude of other skills including being a skilful skier, linguist, musician and fantastic cook (her chocolate and orange cake is certainly not to be missed!). Despite the demands of studying fourth year Biology, Emily's energetic and fun-loving personality means she always knows how to have a good time, and we're all enjoying another year with her in the club. Be warned though... her famous 'Red Beardon' cocktail is certainly not for the faint hearted and can have rather peculiar after effects ;)

Rebecca Crabtree

Rebecca is this years treasurer. Hailing from the South West of the country ( Bristol - ish to be precise) and studying Biology with conservation and biodiversity, our treasuer is well suited to prowling the Derbyshire hills. Rebecca's level headed approach to life stands her in good stead when handling the clubs finances, helping us dodge the red and keeping the money flowing. Not afraid to let her hair down, Rebecca enjoys socialising as well as the occasional glass of cider. Rebecca is also well experienced in travelling the world going to places as diverse as Peru, Switzerland and Greece. Add this to her musical talents and rebecca should be able to provide us with the funds we need to enjoy another merry year of antics in and around the derbyshire hills, and perhaps even further afield.

Des returns to the committee this year as Safety Officer, bringing with her expertise from last year as Trip's Officer. From Bradford, and having been in Sheffield for a few years now Des is firmly rooted in the north, holding a good knowledge of the peaks and pubs we may come to visit. We can all rely on her knowledge to keep us safe and sound when out and about on our various exploits! Des' calm and organised personality is sure to keep everything in good order, and she isn't afraid to let her hair down on our socials either, where it's not unusual to find her sipping a Crabbie's!

Leon Willis

New to the committee this year, and fulfilling the role of walks officer, is the very capable, Leon. Being a Sheffield resident, he is the perfect person for the job. Leon brings not only his Sheffield and Peak District expertise, but enthusiasm and humour to this year's committee. His infectious laugh and mighty banter at any social or walk is sure to brighten up anyone's day!! Never one to turn down a drink, you will be sure to catch him at any social, enjoying the odd pint or two!

Written by Leanne

Leanne is back for another stint on the SUWC committee, this time returning as publicity officer. After keeping the club's finances in check last year, Leanne will now be tasked with keeping us all informed of the walks and socials we have planned. Her words of wisdom will reach us every Tuesday through the medium of email and of course the SUWC website. Our committee members come from all across the UK, with Leanne representing the Irish amongst us. Having said this, Leanne is now well adapted to the Peaks, having been involved with the club many years, both leading the walks and ensuring plenty of banter at the club socials!

Leanne Black
Esther Ackers

Esther is this year's Equipment officer, ensuring that our leader's are suitably equipped for every situation. Hailing from Gloucester, she is probably used to the odd shower of rain (if the Nursery rhyme has any truth in it! Esther is famed for her penchant for blackcurrant cordial on a social, but is sometimes inclined to the odd cocktail (the less said about the results the better...) She is also a walks leader - bringing her enthusiasm along on every trip. As a microbiology student, she can always break an awkward silence by discussing her favourite bacteria. One of the many Freshers who infiltrated the committee this year, be sure to see Esther in the club for many years to come.

This year's Social secretary is 2nd year history student Matt. A local lad who knows his way round all the pubs, hills and entertainment to be found in and around sheffield, he will be sure to find a diverse range of traditional ales for us to sample. Also fond of clubbing, this year Matt has planned plenty of nights out to help us unwind throughout the year as well as the usual pub socials and meals out! Well known for being a bit of a klutz, Matt is always an entertainment on walks, but his apparent clumsiness doesn't stop him from being one of the most active new members of the club!

Matt Carl
Adam Boorman

Adam may have unwittingly mentioned that he was a Computer Science undergrad while we were searching for a new Web Officer but he has taken up this role with great enthusiasm. Fluent in the various computer languages Adam is the man for the job when it comes to running the technical side of the club, because let's face it I'm not going to be much use! Yet another southern committee member (hailing from the Kentish countryside) Adam has quickly taken to the hills and ales of the north. One of our gang of fresh faces on the committee this year, Adams thrown himself into SUWC antics and we're looking forward to an exciting year with him on the committee.
